KREISCHE BREWERY STATE HISTORIC SITE

LaGrange - 14 miles. Ruins of a stone brewery, one of the first commercial breweries in Texas, and home built in the 1840's by a German stonemason, Heinreich Kreische. Group tours of German culture offered. Open 8:00 a.m. - 4:30pm.

MONUMENT HILL STATE HISTORIC SITE

La Grange - 14 miles. Monument Hill serves as burial site for Texans who drew black beans of death after Mier Expedition against Mexico, and for 41 soldiers who died in conflict with Mexicans at Salado Creek battle of 1842.  Group tours of early Texas history are offered. Open 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

FAYETTE COUNTY COUNTRY MUSIC OPRY

La Grange - 15 miles. Live traditional country music every third Monday evening of the month at the KC Hall, 190 S. Brown St.  Show starts at 7:00 p.m.  Hamburgers and door prizes. $8 Admission.  (979) 966-3568.

TEXAS CZECH HERITAGE & CULTURAL CENTER

La Grange - 19 miles.  A developing multi-functional facility that preserves and promotes Czech heritage. The Center now hosts a library, museum, gift shop, and a Czech village to walk or drive through. Free admission.

TEXAS QUILT MUSEUM

La Grange - 18 miles. Showcasing antique and contemporary quilts as fine art.  Exhibits change every 4 months. The Museum’s three galleries are located in two restored 1893 buildings constructed of handmade brick.  Also contains the Pearce Memorial Library and Material Culture Center, with reference books and samples of fabrics from the 1785-1895 19th and 20th centuries which are accessible for study.  Shopping.  140 West Colorado, Open Thursday-Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Discount Admission for students, senior citizens, and veterans $8/ Regular Admission $10. Flatonia - 13 miles.  The Museum contains 5 model trains on display, the history of the railroad in Flatonia, and access to the Switching Tower.  Open Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. -Noon/1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
